Asked if he thinks blue can be too cold for interior design, Cohler said, "Not necessarily. The client wanted the room to have a sense of calm. And at what I call the "violet hour," which is my favorite time, at the end of the day, the light comes into the apartment from the west and the room is aglow."

The Bedroom is equipped with a heavenly bed and a fireplace, lit up six small windows, located on the sun-side of Vianden castle in Luxembourg. the castle was constructed between the 11th and 14th centuries on the foundations of a Roman 'castellum' and a Carolingian refuge. It is one of the largest and most beautiful feudal residences of the romanesque and gothic periods in Europe. Until the beginning of the 15th century it was the seat of the influential counts of Vianden who could boast their close connections to the Royal Family of France and the German imperial court.

The windows face east and I ws going to cover them with foil if I didn't get something to cover them in the morning. Oh, hell yes. In this Seattle bedroom, the Lonny editors painted one wall Benjamin Moore's chalkboard paint in Black and brought in West Elm's white storage bed frame to help hide clutter. Ribba picture ledge and Ljusas Uvas lamps from IKEA. Batina Citrine duvet cover from Dwell Studio. Framed art from IKEA and Etsy.

Love the gray and yellow palette; not a fan of the bed frame or the lamp. To lighten things up and make the room more interesting, I'd bring in a white or pale gray bed and a different lamp(s), such as these green midcentury ones, this fabulous faux bamboo number or these simple Hollywood Regency ginger jars.

Monochrome doesn't have to be boring, yo. When you're decorating with a tone-on-tone palette, use different textures and patterns to give the space depth and richness.

In this Alabama house, interior designers Paige Schnell and Doug Davis of Tracery Interiors painted walls Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter, a lovely pale gray that provides a nice contrast with the dark floors. The Bernhardt bed in natural linen is from Three Sheets. Throw pillow from Ankasa.
